Face Under $10: Ambi Complexion Cleansing Bar

Ambi Skincare has been around for ages and is very well known for improving the tone, texture and overall health of skin. For those unfamiliar, Ambi Skincare is part of the Johnson & Johnson product family. The Ambi Complexion Cleansing Bar is the most affordable cleanser I have ever come across. It is a mild, lightly scented bar that cleanses without drying. Not only does this product cleanse skin, it removes makeup and evens the complexion as well. Although this cleanser is not supposed to over dry skin, I follow up with moisturizer as always. This product may also help with acne as a friend of mine noticed significantly less cysts after 3 weeks of use. Also make sure you are careful with the eye area, getting this product in your eye will burn like crazy! As a precaution, I suggest that after rinsing, blot the eyes with a cotton ball or cloth before opening your pretty peepers. I do that regardless of what cleanser I use, eyes are very delicate my darlings! Lastly, don't be fooled into thinking Ambi Skincare can only be used by African American consumers or dark skin tones, they can work for all.  Ambi Complexion Cleansing Bar is 3.5oz and can be found at most drugstores and online.

Price Range: $1.50 - $3

Foto Friday - Saw 3D Slater Style

Last night my brother and I went to an early screening of Saw 3D. We are very close and always have fun...Slater Style. Here we are ready to go to the theater.

This was my first outing in quite some time since my last Lupus flare. The movie was great and I enjoyed every minute of the evening!

Face Under $10: Basis Cleaner Clean Face Wash

Once during a torturous visit to Walmart, I noticed Basis Cleaner Clean Face Wash for normal to oily skin. I alternate between bar, gel and cream face wash and I was looking for a new gel based cleanser. I researched the product online when I got home and decided to give it a whirl due to the price and benefit claims. What I really like about this cleanser is that it is 100% oil free and soap free. So I don't need to worry about my chin or t-zone getting extra oily or the harsh effects soap can have on delicate skin. My skin is pretty sensitive as to where I have signs of irritation within an hour. Basis Cleaner Clean Face Wash is gentle enough for my skin yet effective enough to leave my skin clean, soft and glowing. It contains mint, lemon grass and chamomile and though it is gel based, it foams as you are cleansing.

Also, I use makeup remover faithfully but the product claimed to remove it. So to test this theory, I skipped makeup remover and used just the cleanser and it did indeed remove the makeup. So for those who like cleanser that lets you skip makeup remover, this may be for you! The product is 6oz and lasts a decent amount of time. The only thing I did not like is the tube. I prefer cleansers come with a pump, as each pump typically gives you exactly the amount of product needed. I always feel that with tubes, I end up using more than needed thus going thru the product faster. That is a minor complaint being that the cleanser is so good and affordable. Basis Cleaner Clean Face Wash can be found in some supermarkets, Walmart and online.

Face Under $10: Fresh Farmacy by Lush

I am so hooked on products by Lush Cosmetics. They have an array of handmade skin care, hair care, perfume and more. My favorite skin care item for the face by Lush is Fresh Farmacy Cleanser, a bar cleanser that amazingly soothes and tones skin. It is made with calamine and chamomile making it extremely effective for calming blemishes. If you have had the chicken pox or rashes, you have probably experienced the calming effects of calamine and/or chamomile. Well because of those ingredients, this cleanser has the same fabulous effect for blemishes of the face. Fresh Farmacy Cleanser also contains rose, tea tree and lavender oils which adds an antibacterial factor to the already great benefits. Another thing I love is that this product does not smell like chemicals or a medicine cabinet like most cleansers do. The 3.5 ounce bar lasts me 2-3 months depending on usage. You can order online but if you are new to Lush products and have a store near you, I highly recommend checking it out. The in-store experience is simply amazing and you will enjoy smelling and viewing the selection of goodies. Having Lush reps available to explain product usage, answer questions and make recommendations is an extremely useful advantage for newbies. Otherwise LushUSA.com is very helpful with photos, product descriptions and an ingredient dictionary called the Lushopedia...cute!

Thoughtful Thursday - Facebook Ruined My Relationship

I cannot even count the amount of times I have heard people claim Facebook, Myspace or some other social network ruined their relationships with significant others, family or friends. I do not understand that concept. I find myself asking, did Facebook make you air your dirty laundry or play word war in your status updates? Did Twitter trick you into posting negative tweets about your friend? Did Photobucket demand that you upload questionable photos for all to see? Did Myspace force you to flirt with your ex or numerous others? Did Eharmony pressure you to sign up, claim you're single and cheat on someone? Don't blame social networks because you said too much, were a bad friend or found out your boyfriend is a douche lord. A social network didn't ruin your relationship...human actions did. Last time I checked, we all had choices and those instances were all human actions committed by free will. Think about it.

Face Under $10: Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar

Today's Face Under $10 product is Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar ($4 - $5), a non-soap cleanser for dry, sensitive skin. This mild, moisturizing cleanser is gentle enough to avoid skin irritation while still doing it's job of getting skin clean. It is so gentle that I used it years ago on my infant nephew for his eczema, which is completely gone now. What is great about this product, other than the awesome price, is that it is not solely for washing your face. As recommended by many dermatologists, you can use Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar from head to toe! So if you have all over sensitive skin, or perhaps a case of body acne, this may be just what you need. The cleansing bar is 4.5 oz so it will last a good amount of time and it can be found in most super markets, drugstores and online. Cetaphil also has cleansers available in liquid form so whichever your preference, you have options.

Face Under $10: Burt's Bees Garden Tomato Complexion Soap

I have been asked numerous times what products I use, past and present, for everything from skin care to random household items. I am going to start sharing more products I have used, in an order of series, this one being facial cleansers under $10. I will share a different face wash under $10 each day this week so check back tomorrow for the next product. In no particular order, starting with Burt's Bees Garden Tomato Complexion Soap ($6 - $8).

Burt's Bees Garden Tomato Complexion Soap is an affordable, natural bar soap geared toward oily and troubled skin. The main ingredient in this soap is tomato powder, a naturally acidic extract that helps balance the pH of skin. Tomatoes contain great antioxidants such as vitamin E and beta-carotene. This gentle soap will also help refine enlarged skin and soothe skin. You may have to get used to the scent of the soap but it isn't horrible and it will not leave your face smelling of tomato. My sense of smell is uber strong, like a puppy, so I am very sensitive to smells. I found the scent to be new and unusual but not intolerable.

I have combination skin, whereas my chin & t-zone are sometimes oily while the rest of my face is normal. If you have combo skin like me, you may want to follow up with a good moisturizer as this soap may dry out the areas of your skin that are not oily. Or alternate with a different facial cleanser every few days. If you have never used a bar soap for your face, it is just as easy as liquid/gel cleansers. Clean your hands of course. Then simply create a lather from the cleansing bar using water, massage onto face & neck and rinse. You can then follow up with toner and moisturizer if that is a part of your routine. This is a 4 ounce bar and will last a good amount of time. You may not find Burt's Bees Garden Tomato Complexion Soap in stores, it is often easier to simply order it online for about $6.

Price Range: $6 - $8
My Rating:  8/10

MM: Michael Jackson - Ghosts (Full Version)

October is one of my favorite months of the year mostly due to the airing of all the classic horror films, my favorite movie genre. To tap into the mode of ghouls, goblins, creepy crawlies and things that go bump in the night, I chose a musical short film by the master of music videos. Are you thinking Michael Jackson's "Thriller"? Sure you are! As amazing as it is, I felt that would be the typical choice and I'm sure it has been featured by many bloggers for MM. My choice is 40 minutes, hence musical short film, broken into 4 segments below. Grab some snacks and watch Michael Jackson "Ghosts". Enjoy!

Foto Friday - Duck Tales

My mother, aunt Denise and I came across the cutest little ducklings at the lake by my home.

So I whipped out my cell phone & snapped away. They live uber close to the gator area...

These two lil ones kept wandering off by themselves...I named them Curious & George.

Thoughtful Thursday - Too Grown For You!

Do you remember the music you listened to as a child? Possibly it was whatever your parents or older siblings were into, but as you grew closer to preteen status you probably began forming your own musical preferences. Let's face it, music has changed greatly over the years. Sure there were songs aimed at adults with topics just for them, but for the most part they were not so suggestive that your parents were ready to ban music from your home. These days, more and more artists release music full of sexuality, drugs and profanity with music videos that often are banned from networks or have to be heavily edited to suit television. This week I posted a video by Willow Smith (See: Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair" Video Refreshing), stating I would prefer my nephew listen to child artists like her, rather than majority of adult artists today. Although, even that can become a battle because many of these child/teen artists are trying to grow up too fast and want to be like "the big kids". If you are a parent, what do you think about the music your kids are potentially exposed to? Do you monitor what they listen to? What artists/songs do you forbid in your home? What child/teen artists do you approve or disapprove of? If not a parent, imagine you were, what is your take on the issue? Have you noticed the change in music over the years?
