Detox Kit For Stressed Skin

Normally I am a huge fan of Neutrogena & Lush skin care products. But my crazy lifestyle, in addition to the odd transition of weather we had in Florida from winter through summer, really did a number on my skin. So unfortunately I had to abandon my standard regimen and find something new to address the craptastic changes taking place on my face!

A few months ago, I came across the perfect solution to my skin woes. My new best friend is Skyn Iceland's Detox Kit for Stressed Skin. Skyn Iceland is by far the best skin care brand I have ever tried! After 4-5 days use, my skin highly improved and began recovering from the harsh weather damage that had been done. Aside from the occasional hormonal breakout (life as a female!), my skin is back to it's soft, baby-like texture and glow.

The Skyn Iceland Detox Kit for Stressed Skin includes:
  • Glacial Face Wash with Biospheric Complex
  • Arctic Face Mist with Biospheric Complex
  • The ANTIDOTE Quenching Daily Lotion with Biospheric Complex
  • Oxygen Infusion Night Cream with Biosperic Complex
The items in the kit are mini's, not full sized, making the kit perfect for travel as well. However, they last well over 30 days as a little goes a long way with Skyn Iceland products. I use the face wash twice daily and the 1oz container lasted me approximately 45 days. The Detox Kit for Stressed Skin is $45 at SkynIceland.com and Sephora.com as well. There are also full sized versions of all these items as well as other items by Skyn Iceland.

I plan to try The ANTIDOTE SPF 18 Mineral Sunscreen next. Also important to note is that Skyn Iceland products are paraben free, natural ingredients, certified cruelty-free by PETA and 100% vegetarian. You can visit SkynIceland.com to learn about their entire product line and Sephora.com has plenty of customer reviews.

Fire Drill...Nope, Fire!

I'm going to take you through a series of events that occurred a few nights ago.

  1. Suffered an allergic reaction to something I ate or touched
  2. Self medicated with Benadryl around 2:30am...zzzzzzz
  3. Beep, beep, beep! Smoke alarm goes off around 6am

I'm a very light sleeper...when I actually sleep. But anyone who has taken Benadryl knows it knocks you out cold! Somehow, I woke up from my Benadryl coma when that alarm sounded off. I jumped out of bed like a ninja and quickly but calmly went to check out the situation even though I did not smell any smoke. Better safe than sorry.

Turns out, cooking oil was spilled the night before and seeped into one of the stove burners. So when one of the roomies went to make breakfast using the infamous burner, flames occurred. The flames were immediately put out, however smoke filled the entire kitchen area and quickly spread causing the alarms to come to life. Benadryl and I went back to bed. Annoying to be woken like that but at least now we know our smoke alarms work! It made me have flash backs of fire drills in school.

Just a tip for those with central air conditioning: Never leave your AC in the ON position at night or while sleeping. Make sure you set it to temp control because when our AC came on, it immediately made the smoke alarms shut off. Therefore, if you leave your AC in the ON position, fall asleep and a fire erupts, your alarm may never sound off due to the air keeping the sensors cool & smoke free. If it does come on eventually, it may alert you too late to control damage or evacuate to safety.

Also make sure you keep active batteries in every smoke alarm in your home, it can save your life...and it's the law! Luckily for us, it was not more serious. But you never know, which is why you should be prepared and take it seriously if you hear alarms. Anyhow, I've been watching too many In Living Color reruns and that situation of course made me laugh later at the thought of Fire Marshall Bill coming to the "rescue". Thank goodness he wasn't around to make matters worse!

Being Pretty = Lucky Life

You're lucky to be pretty because it makes life easy. Jobs, attention, free stuff. Great things happen for you because you're pretty. Yes, someone actually said that to me! Are you kidding me? Do many people actually believe ridiculous things of this nature? I personally took offense to the statement. It borderline sounded as if I have no desirable skills or couldn't get anything in life based on intelligence. I'm not saying these things never happen. Some people do judge by looks but to take an instance and apply that to every person you think is attractive is far fetched. Think about it.

If a company hires attractive people who are not qualified to perform the duties required, that company will flop! But hey, it'll have a nice company photo for newspaper headline. Aside from the modeling/entertainment industry, I've never seen any job search requesting a photo be submitted with an application. My resume got me in the door for my previous jobs. When I worked at an environmental chemistry lab, I did not get hired because they felt I was pretty. I can see the headlines: "Local chem lab explodes due to hiring based on looks".

Also, everyone's perception of beauty is different. Not everyone will think I am pretty. Everything in life is not handed to me on a sugar coated lollipop because some people think I'm pretty. I've been through many struggles and worked hard to make it day by day just like everyone else. The jobs I've had were based on my  qualifications, the attention I get is often because I'm outgoing and perks come from networking. Plus we're talking about lip gloss, shirts, etc, that's part of the industry I'm in. It's not like I was handed a car! If it were that easy then I would book every modeling job I go after and that is not the case. Or I could sit around doing nothing and never worry about another bill. Seriously.

More Proof Of Your Psycho

Another silly, useless post I made on my friend JC's Facebook wall after discovering I left shoes at his house during a weekend visit & he refused to give them back.

Mina: Here is more proof of your psycho:
Jason: Mina I make fun of your tiny feet but secretly I wish mine were as cute as yours
Mina: I know JC but we can't have everything we want in life
Jason: Yes I can, that's why I held your flip flops hostage for 2 years
Mina: Are you serious dude?
Jason: Yea, even though they don't fit I wear them around my house when I miss you.

JC's Reply:
hahahahaha... how did you know i wear them around the house? since your feet are so small i had to duct tape the 2 of them together so i can only wear them on one foot... so it looks like i'm going to have to take another pair hostage next time you come here!

FYI, I wear a size 4 and tend to shop in the kids section when I need sneakers, flats or flip flops. Go ahead and laugh all you big foots...just remember that my shoes cost less than yours leaving me more money for clothes!

What About Me?

It's been quite a while since my last update. I have been so busy lately and honestly it does not appear that life will be slowing down anytime soon. I've setup a few pre-post updates for the next few weeks to make sure I don't leave the site on hiatus. Life can get crazy whether working, going to school, taking care of your family, preparing for the future and/or helping others. In the midst of that it is so easy to forget about taking care of yourself.

I am the queen of forgetting about myself or putting my needs and wants last. I've recently started taking "Me Time" every day. Even if it is just a moment, I put everything aside and do something just for me, by myself. Even as simple as eating breakfast while watching a favorite morning show, curling up with a book or taking a drive. It gives me time to reflect and reconnect with my thoughts and goals. My stress level and peace of mind has decreased so much since starting "Me Time". I really feel a little bit of alone time, even if just 5 minutes, is very important.

I've even made a new rule for myself. Every morning I refuse to do anything work related before I enjoy a healthy breakfast. No booking, no calls, no interviews, nada! I do not even turn on my computer and my phone is off or on silent. Once I'm finished, everything goes on and start my day. I am wondering if anyone else takes "Me Time" and if so what methods do you use to ensure you get your personal time?
